Job Description

[Up to c. £200k Comp Package (or equivalent) | Hybrid Working - 4 Days in Office]

We’re partnering with a leading global systematic investment firm expanding its Linux platform operations across multiple regions. After years of running a lean global team, the firm is now investing heavily in infrastructure stability - opening new roles to strengthen daily Linux operations and drive long-term platform modernisation. This is a rare chance to operate at the core of a highly technical environment with real autonomy. You’ll help maintain, optimise, and future-proof their Linux estate - covering system engineering, automation, architecture design, and global compute reliability. If you’re after broad Linux engineering work with genuine impact across one of the world’s most advanced quantitative trading platforms, this is it...

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and enhance the global Linux platform estate (RHEL/CentOS/Rocky), ensuring operational stability, performance, and scalability
  • Lead automation of hardware provisioning workflows, contributing to the build-out of a new, fully automated provisioning architecture
  • Support ongoing migration projects, including full system transition from CentOS 7 to Rocky 9 while refactoring associated codebases
  • Develop and refine configuration management solutions using Ansible (or comparable IaC frameworks), driving consistency across environments
  • Build and maintain observability solutions, incorporating monitoring, alerting, and logging across compute platforms
  • Write and maintain automation scripts in Python to improve system reliability, automate BAU tasks, and support platform tooling
  • Participate in storage engineering efforts, contributing to architecture, integration, and operational support across hybrid on-prem and cloud storage platforms
  • Collaborate with colleagues across middleware, scheduling, database, and network teams to align infrastructure priorities globally
  • Provide rotational support coverage (typically 1 week in 4), limited to standard business hours per location due to follow-the-sun handoffs
  • Occasionally support weekend releases and maintenance activities (compensated with time in lieu)
  • Work closely with global stakeholders to identify areas for optimisation, ensuring strategic priorities and day-to-day operations evolve in balance

What You’ll Bring...

  • 4+ years' professional experience in Linux engineering, infrastructure operations, or platform compute environments
  • Strong knowledge of Red Hat-based Linux distributions (RHEL, CentOS, Rocky), including system administration, troubleshooting, and upgrades
  • Proficiency with configuration management tools such as Ansible (or alternatives like Puppet, Salt, or Chef)
  • Solid scripting skills in Python (strong working capability expected)
  • Experience building automation pipelines for hardware provisioning, systems deployment, and infrastructure configuration
  • Understanding of storage architectures and protocols (block, object, file-based storage) - direct hands-on expertise preferred but can be expanded on-the-job
  • Familiarity with GCP or AWS cloud environments (core exposure useful, but public cloud is a smaller component of current remit)
  • Experience with CI/CD tools such as GitLab CI, ArgoCD, or Jenkins for platform automation
  • Exposure to middleware platforms such as Kafka, Consul, HAProxy, or distributed job schedulers such as Airflow or Slurm
  • Strong cross-team collaboration and communication skills; able to interface effectively with engineering, operations, and trading teams globally
  • (Preferred) Familiarity with observability tooling such as Prometheus, Grafana, or ELK stack
  • (Preferred) Exposure to cloud-native development (Helm, Kustomize, GitOps practices)
  • (Preferred) Background in database platform support (NoSQL technologies such as ClickHouse desirable)

This role will hire multiple headcount across London, Montreal (or New York), and Singapore, with opportunities spanning both operational and strategic platform initiatives. Senior leadership roles at lead level are also open for London-based candidates interested in taking a team management remit while remaining technical.
