Are you a hands-on network professional with experience in leading technical teams and managing end-to-end project lifecycles? Our client, a leading global trading firm, is seeking a Lead Network Infrastructure Engineer to oversee a skilled team in Chicago. With a focus on delivering cutting-edge, low-latency network solutions, this role is pivotal in shaping the future of the firm’s high-performance network infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead and mentor a team of more than five experienced network engineers, providing guidance on project delegation, vision, and team growth

• Manage full project lifecycles, including design, architecture, implementation, and operational support, across a low-latency trading environment

• Own and deliver high-impact networking initiatives, including upgrades, automation, and performance tuning

• Collaborate closely with trading desks, business units, and technical teams to align networking solutions with business objectives

• Oversee the integration of cutting-edge networking equipment such as routers, switches, firewalls, and timing servers

• Support automation efforts within the network team, providing input into tools and process improvements

• Participate in on-call rotations, ensuring operational excellence and minimal downtime


Key Requirements:

• 8+ years of network engineering experience, including in-depth design, implementation, and operational support

• 4+ years of leadership experience in network engineering or operations, with a proven ability to mentor and guide senior engineers

• Expertise in low-latency network environments, ideally within trading or financial services

• Strong technical skills in TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, Multicast, and network security

• Hands-on experience with timing infrastructure such as GPS, PTP, White Rabbit, and NTP

• Familiarity with automation tools and programming languages like Python or Golang (deep coding expertise not essential, but a strong understanding is preferred)

• Experience with VPNs, firewalls, and site-to-site connectivity

• Excellent interpersonal skills to foster collaboration
