Role Overview

We’re working with Europe’s largest crypto asset manager - a technology-led trading firm with a lean, high-calibre global engineering team (a dozen in total). As part of a strategic front-office rebuild, they’re hiring a senior development lead to take ownership of backend systems that power both discretionary and systematic strategies. You’ll directly manage 4 backend software engineers, shaping the direction of a next-gen platform while staying hands-on with architecture, development, and the delivery of model-driven tooling. Key Responsibilities

• Lead the delivery of robust, scalable trading infrastructure - enabling real-time execution, data flow, and analytics across a fast-moving global environment
• Define and maintain a consistent engineering vision across services, helping consolidate legacy frameworks into a streamlined, modular architecture
• Drive backend development using Go and Python, with a focus on microservices, cloud-native design, and low-latency performance tuning
• Introduce automation across deployment, monitoring, and testing - improving code reliability, release speed, and production observability
• Collaborate with researchers and traders to operationalise models and strategy logic, embedding data science tools and APIs into live environments
• Overseeing day-to-day workflow, code review, hiring, and technical mentoring
• Act as a key liaison between business users and engineering, converting commercial objectives into technical roadmaps and iterative delivery plans
• Participate in out-of-hours response and fault resolution where required - ensuring high availability across mission-critical trading systems

What You’ll Bring...

• 8+ years designing and building high-performance platforms in a trading or quant research environment
• 4+ years managing engineering teams - including direct reports, hiring, technical oversight, and agile delivery
• Exposure to CI/CD tooling, infrastructure-as-code, and developer productivity automation
• Strong fluency in Golang and/or another compiled language such as C++ or Java, plus Python for scripting, analytics or model tooling
• Hands-on experience designing distributed, cloud-hosted systems (preferably AWS), ideally within containerised or microservices-based environments
• Deep understanding of performance optimisation, system reliability, and backend scalability within low-latency trading workflows
• A delivery mindset - pragmatic, organised, and focused on outcomes that drive business value
• Experience integrating ML models or analytics workflows into live trading or research pipelines
• (Preferred) Previous background in FX, equities, or digital assets (crypto favoured but not essential)
• (Preferred) An appreciation for modern software engineering best practices within high-trust, fast-paced teams
