Senior Cloud Engineer
Job Description
[Up to c. $400k Comp Package | Hybrid Working - 3 Days in Office]
Role Overview
We’re representing a leading global investment firm seeking a Senior Cloud Engineer/Architect to strengthen its growing technology function in New York. With demand for cloud services rising rapidly across the organisation, this role offers the chance to shape and scale a multi-cloud environment that underpins mission-critical trading and research systems. You’ll balance hands-on engineering with architectural leadership, helping to drive the next phase of the firm’s cloud strategy. Current initiatives include a large-scale Kubernetes uplift, centralisation of authentication, migration away from VMware, and new advances in cloud networking. At the same time, you’ll ensure the environment remains vendor-agnostic, providing flexibility to adopt new and emerging technologies while avoiding reliance on any single provider. This is a strategic, high-impact position in which your work will directly influence performance, resilience, and scalability across the firm’s cloud estate...
Key Responsibilities
- Architect, design, and operate secure, scalable, and reliable environments across AWS, Azure, and GCP
- Guide the evolution of the firm’s cloud strategy, ensuring vendor neutrality while introducing new technologies that deliver measurable business benefit
- Partner with engineers and architects across Infrastructure, Platform, and Development to embed cloud capabilities into broader workflows
- Champion automation, applying Infrastructure-as-Code practices (Terraform, Pulumi, or equivalent) to streamline provisioning and management
- Drive adoption of cloud-native platforms, including Kubernetes migration and uplift as the business transitions away from physical infrastructure
- Collaborate with security and risk teams to embed secure-by-default controls and maintain compliance with regulatory standards
- Improve observability and monitoring across the estate, introducing proactive measures for performance, cost optimisation, and resilience
- Produce clear technical documentation and communicate status, trade-offs, and risks to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
What You’ll Bring...
- 5+ years’ professional experience in cloud engineering or architecture, with strong AWS expertise and familiarity across Azure and GCP
- Strong automation mindset with proven scripting/coding ability, ideally in Python
- Experience with Kubernetes and container platforms in production-grade settings
- Background with Infrastructure-as-Code tooling such as Terraform or Pulumi, and CI/CD pipelines (e.g. GitHub Actions)
- Understanding of cloud networking, authentication centralisation, and secure access patterns
- Appreciation for security fundamentals and experience working with InfoSec in regulated environments
- Excellent communicator with the ability to bridge technical and non-technical conversations across flat, collaborative teams
- Exposure to high-availability, mission-critical environments (finance preferred)
