Role Overview
We’re representing a global trading and investment firm known for its high-performance technology platforms and commitment to engineering excellence. The firm is expanding its core compute infrastructure and is seeking an Experienced Linux Engineer to design, optimise, and automate large-scale systems that underpin critical trading operations. This role is suited to an engineer with deep Linux expertise and a passion for problem-solving at scale. You’ll work on some of the most demanding compute environments in the industry - improving reliability, performance, and automation across thousands of systems. This is an opportunity to join a world-class team where innovation, collaboration, and technical depth are central to success...
Key Responsibilities
- Architect, build, and maintain scalable Linux compute platforms, ensuring reliability and peak performance across global environments
- Develop and deploy automation tooling to streamline system provisioning, configuration, and lifecycle management
- Perform deep performance tuning at the hardware, OS, and kernel level to optimise low-latency applications and infrastructure workloads
- Design and implement infrastructure-as-code frameworks using tools such as Ansible, Terraform, or Packer
- Diagnose and resolve complex platform and infrastructure issues - analysing metrics, logs, and system behaviours to identify root causes quickly
- Proactively identify areas for improvement, introducing new technologies or methods to reduce operational friction and increase observability
- Partner with other platform, networking, and software engineering teams to improve integration between systems and accelerate automation initiatives
- Participate in on-call or escalation rotations, supporting mission-critical environments where uptime and performance are paramount
- Produce and maintain clear, detailed documentation and runbooks for operational processes, configuration, and deployment workflows
What You’ll Bring...
- 4-10 years’ professional experience working within large-scale Linux environments, ideally in high-availability or low-latency settings
- Strong expertise in Linux systems administration and tuning, with deep familiarity across RHEL, CentOS, or Ubuntu distributions
- Proven experience in automation and configuration management, ideally using Python for scripting and infrastructure tooling
- Familiarity with API development or integrating custom tooling for automation workflows
- Hands-on knowledge of infrastructure-as-code principles and related technologies (Terraform, Ansible, Puppet, or Packer)
- Strong understanding of networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP, DNS, routing, and load balancing
- Excellent problem-solving skills and an ability to thrive in a fast-paced, engineering-led culture
- (Preferred) Experience writing or maintaining software in Go or another systems-level programming language
- (Preferred) Experience working with virtualisation platforms such as VMware, KVM, or similar
- (Preferred) Experience conducting system performance analysis and benchmarking under demanding workloads
