Site Reliability Engineer - Platform Engineering
Job Description
[Up to c. £250k Comp Package | Office-Led Working]
Role Overview
We’re representing a global multi-strategy investment firm building out its London platform engineering capability with an additional Site Reliability Engineer.
The position sits within the team responsible for the shared engineering platforms, automation and reliability tooling used across the organisation. Rather than operating as a traditional infrastructure support function, the team works closely with software engineers, portfolio management and trading-facing stakeholders to improve how systems are deployed, monitored, scaled and operated. You’ll own technical improvements across Kubernetes, Kafka, cloud infrastructure, CI/CD, observability and infrastructure automation, combining software engineering with production reliability. This is a hands-on engineering role rather than a lead position, although there is scope for broader technical ownership as the platform and team continue to develop...
Role Snapshot
- Bring typically 3-8 years of experience across Site Reliability Engineering, DevOps, platform engineering or cloud infrastructure in production environments
- Build automation and engineering tooling that reduces operational overhead, improves repeatability and increases the resilience of shared technology platforms
- Work deeply with Kubernetes, including the operation, scalability and reliability of containerised production workloads rather than surface-level deployment exposure
- Develop and support Kafka-based streaming capabilities, with a strong understanding of how messaging infrastructure behaves within distributed production systems
- Write production-quality automation and tooling using Python, Go or another suitable programming language, with software engineering ability expected beyond scripting alone
- Engineer and improve cloud infrastructure within AWS, including the deployment, performance, security and operational characteristics of cloud-based services
- Use Terraform, Ansible, Salt or comparable Infrastructure as Code and configuration tooling to make infrastructure provisioning and change management more consistent
- Improve CI/CD and deployment workflows, helping engineering teams adopt reliable build, release and delivery patterns across shared environments
- Strengthen observability through monitoring, alerting and operational standards using platforms such as Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog or equivalent
- (Strongly Preferred) Experience within investment management, trading, financial technology or another high-throughput engineering environment where reliability, scalability and rapid problem resolution materially affect the business
