Role Overview
We’re representing a global quantitative trading organisation looking for an IT Operations Engineer to join the function responsible for the technology used across its offices and trading environment. This is considerably broader than a conventional desktop support position, combining high-quality end-user support with systems administration, infrastructure troubleshooting, monitoring and engineering improvement.
The position operates across a mixed Windows, Linux and macOS estate, covering endpoints, servers, Windows domain services, connectivity and business-critical applications. You’ll diagnose problems across multiple layers of the stack while working directly with technically sophisticated users where speed, accuracy and communication all matter. There is also meaningful scope to improve how the function operates. Role Snapshot
- Bring strong hands-on experience supporting or administering production IT environments, with particular depth across Windows desktop and server technologies
- Own technical issues across endpoints, operating systems, applications, servers and connectivity, working through problems methodically rather than simply escalating them
- Administer Windows infrastructure including Active Directory, Group Policy and related enterprise services
- Build, configure and maintain Windows, Linux and macOS laptops, desktops and servers across a globally distributed technology estate
- Monitor critical systems and respond quickly to operational issues affecting users or wider business services
- Use automation and scripting to remove repetitive operational work, with PowerShell particularly relevant and Bash or Python valuable additions
- Apply solid networking, hardware and systems fundamentals when diagnosing problems spanning desktop, server and network layers
- Work closely with highly technical users, translating incomplete problem descriptions into clear diagnoses while communicating calmly and precisely
- Contribute to documentation, operational improvements and wider infrastructure projects, with flexibility for occasional evening or weekend work where business requirements demand it
- (Preferred) Bring additional exposure to Linux or macOS administration, mobile-device management platforms, endpoint tooling or enterprise productivity and market-data applications
