Job Description

[Up to c. $350k Comp Package | Flexible Working Options]

Role Overview

We’re partnering with one of the world’s most advanced quantitative trading firms to hire a Senior Network Engineer who can help evolve and scale a truly global, ultra-low-latency network footprint. This team builds and operates a high-performance infrastructure spanning dozens of markets and locations, supporting 24/7 trading and research across the US, EMEA and APAC. This position combines architecture, engineering depth, and hands-on problem-solving. You’ll take ownership of routing design, WAN expansion, multicast distribution, new market connectivity, capacity planning, and lifecycle improvements across a rapidly growing environment. Expect to work alongside exceptional engineers, systems specialists, and trading operations teams, influencing decisions that affect real-time trading outcomes...

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and refine large-scale network architectures supporting low-latency trading, market data distribution, and global research workloads
  • Own WAN strategy end-to-end - capacity planning, optimisation, vendor selection, route design, and ongoing performance tuning
  • Deploy and integrate new exchanges, colos, and offices into the global network, ensuring predictable latency and full resiliency
  • Analyse and troubleshoot challenging networking problems across routing, multicast, market data, wireless, optical, and WAN layers
  • Improve reliability through monitoring, alerting, documentation, automation, and structured operational workflows
  • Partner with Systems Engineering, Trading Operations, and software teams to ensure the network platform operates cleanly under peak load
  • Contribute to roadmap planning around future connectivity, low-latency design, and on-prem expansion - including upcoming colo builds
  • Influence internal tooling decisions and help standardise configuration, provisioning, and observability practices across a globally distributed estate

What You’ll Bring…

  • 6+ years of hands-on experience operating and designing production networks (low-latency or trading environments strongly preferred)
  • Deep understanding of L2/L3 protocols - OSPF, BGP, PIM, IGMP - and how to tune them for reliability and performance
  • Strong track record operating devices from Arista, Cisco, Juniper, or similar high-performance vendors
  • Broad troubleshooting expertise across Ethernet LAN, multicast distribution, global WAN routing, fibre-based connectivity, and wireless links
  • Experience onboarding new markets, integrating exchange connectivity, and working with market-data distribution models
  • Familiarity with packet analysis tooling (tcpdump, Wireshark) and the ability to break down issues at the frame/packet level
  • Practical knowledge of datacentre fundamentals including cooling, rack power, cabling, and optics (SFP/QSFP, DWDM)
  • Exposure to scripting or automation (Python, shell) and modern observability stacks (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK)
  • Comfortable working in Linux environments - from CLI diagnostics to network stack inspection
  • Understanding of firewalls, VPNs, NAT, and secure network segmentation
  • (Preferred) Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or another highly technical field
  • (Preferred) Experience with configuration-management tooling (Ansible, Salt)
