Our client, a premiere algorithmic trading firm, is seeking a Senior HPC Network Engineer to join their High Performance Computing (HPC) Network Engineering team. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in designing and engineering the communications infrastructure that supports the firm's rapidly growing, large-scale, and heterogeneous distributed research environment. This position requires both product leadership and vision on the future of cloud-scale networking, as well as deep technical skills.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, select, route, configure, and troubleshoot networks to support the firm's HPC environment
  • Collaborate closely with the HPC Systems team and other teams to scale the research environment
  • Engage with external parties for project-related items and future endeavours
  • Conduct overall capacity planning for the data centre networks
  • Develop scripts and processes to increase efficiency and solve cross-discipline problems
  • Provide detailed documentation and mentor others as a senior resource


Key Requirements:

  • BS or greater in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related IT field
  • 10+ years of relevant experience in designing, deploying, and scaling networks for large HPC environments
  • In-depth understanding of common layer 2 and layer 3 network protocols (OSPF, BGP, PIM, IGMP, spine-leaf architecture, and VXLAN) and best practices
  • Experience in selecting and working with vendors to engineer switches for next-generation computing environments
  • Experience managing Arista (EOS), Cisco (NX-OS), and SONiC-based switches, as well as an interest in exploring new platforms
  • Experience in designing computing and grid networks, capacity planning, and full lifecycle project management
  • Familiarity with packet decoding and analysis tools (tcpdump, Wireshark), public cloud networks (AWS, GCP, Azure), and configuration management tools (Ansible, Salt)
  • Knowledge of fibre optics technology and cabling standards (1 to 800 Gbps)
  • Experience with Unix/Linux command line utilities and networking stack
  • (Desired) Familiarity with Python, Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, GitHub, and AI-style network designs and workloads
