Job Description
[c. £175-250k Comp Package | Hybrid Working]
We’re working with a major life and investment specialist undergoing significant modernisation across its quant platforms. This opportunity sits at the heart of their Trading Services, Risk, and Data Engineering function - building the core services that underpin pricing, booking, lifecycle management, and real-time risk across both asset and liability sides of the business. It’s a hands-on, full-stack engineering role for someone who thrives in high-ownership environments, shipping production-grade code daily, and collaborating closely with front-office and operational teams...
Key Responsibilities
- Build and maintain performant services supporting core trading and risk platforms - from lifecycle management to valuation and analytics
- Design and develop database models and optimise queries across large-scale Postgres and ClickHouse environments
- Deliver robust Python- and Rust-based microservices (HTTP/gRPC), ensuring clear interfaces and test coverage
- Build UIs in React to expose key front- and back-office functionality in real time
- Collaborate with strats, traders, and operations teams to develop clean, resilient systems that solve business-critical problems
- Deploy changes rapidly and responsibly using Kubernetes, Flux, and IaC tools like Terraform on AWS infrastructure
- Own your code in production: test thoroughly, iterate quickly, and support rollouts with pride and precision
- Contribute to a strong engineering culture where delivery velocity, system accuracy, and peer accountability are valued above all else
What You Bring…
- 5-8 years’ experience as a software or quant engineer within financial services or high-performance systems environments
- Strong Python programming skills with production experience - ideally supporting financial, risk, or trade lifecycle systems
- Experience developing microservices and APIs in Python and/or Rust (or a keen interest in learning the latter)
- Familiarity with database architecture and performance optimisation - particularly in Postgres or ClickHouse
- Confidence in unit and integration testing, with a clear focus on robustness and reliability
- Familiarity with infrastructure tools like Kubernetes, Terraform, Flux, and AWS-native services
- Experience building React-based UIs or full-stack systems
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work across business teams and technical stakeholders
- (Preferred) Prior work in capital markets or actuarial trading platforms, particularly those involving risk, pricing, or lifecycle management
- (Preferred) Exposure to gRPC, event-driven architecture, or systems that scale across distributed compute
- (Preferred) Background in building business logic into services used across risk, trading, and operations teams
