Electronic Trading Support Engineer
Job Description
[Up to c. £250k Comp Package | Hybrid/Flexible Working]
Role Overview
We’re partnering with a highly regarded proprietary trading firm operating across global derivatives and electronic markets. The firm is seeking a senior Trade Support/Infrastructure Engineer to sit at the heart of its trading ecosystem - ensuring execution platforms, connectivity, and market infrastructure remain stable, performant, and scalable. This is not a ticket-passing support role. The successful candidate will combine strong trading domain knowledge with hands-on infrastructure expertise. You’ll work directly with traders, developers, and core infrastructure teams to diagnose and resolve production issues in real time - often owning problems end-to-end rather than escalating them...
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the health and stability of electronic trading platforms across multiple markets and asset classes
- Act as a senior escalation point for trading-related incidents, performing deep technical investigations rather than simply routing issues onward
- Analyse order flow, execution behaviour, and exchange connectivity using logs, packet captures, and system diagnostics
- Support and optimise Linux-based production systems running latency-sensitive trading workloads
- Troubleshoot networking issues including TCP/IP stack behaviour, multicast flows, and exchange connectivity
- Work closely with trading desks to onboard new markets, venues, and strategies
- Improve monitoring, automation, and operational tooling to reduce manual intervention and increase resilience
- Partner with development teams to refine system performance, stability, and observability
- Identify recurring operational weaknesses and implement engineering-led solutions to remove root causes
What You’ll Bring…
- 5-9 years' experience in a trading support or trade infrastructure engineering role within an electronic trading environment
- Deep Linux systems knowledge, including performance troubleshooting and production debugging
- Strong understanding of networking fundamentals, particularly TCP/IP and multicast in market data and order routing contexts
- Working knowledge of FIX protocol flows and exchange connectivity
- Practical Python skills used for automation, tooling, or workflow improvement (beyond basic scripting preferred)
- Ability to trace order lifecycles and event streams using logs, diagnostics, and packet capture analysis
- An engineering-first mindset - comfortable owning issues directly and resolving them independently
- Experience operating in high-performance, low-latency environments
- Strong communication skills and comfort working directly with traders in time-sensitive situations
