Job Description
[Up to c. £225k Comp Package | Likely On-Site Working]
Role Overview
We’re partnering with a technology-driven quantitative investment firm whose trading and research platforms operate in performance-critical environments. As their infrastructure continues to scale, they are seeking a senior Linux engineer to take ownership of core platform engineering across low-latency trading systems and high-performance research compute. This is a deeply hands-on role focused on engineering excellence. You will shape how Linux is built, automated, hardened and optimised across the estate - influencing performance, resilience and operational standards in an environment where precision and reliability matter...
Key Responsibilities
- Own and evolve the firm’s enterprise Linux platform (RHEL-based), including standardised builds, patching strategy, hardening and lifecycle management
- Drive automation across provisioning, configuration management and operational workflows using tools such as Ansible, Terraform, Python and container technologies
- Optimise system performance at OS and kernel level, particularly in latency-sensitive environments
- Act as an escalation point for complex production incidents across Linux, networking and storage layers
- Engineer and support high-performance storage solutions and shared research compute environments
- Maintain and troubleshoot GPU-enabled Linux servers supporting advanced modelling workloads
- Independently debug networking issues spanning routing fundamentals, TCP/UDP behaviour and host connectivity
- Improve observability, reliability and change management processes across the Linux estate
- Partner closely with engineering and research teams to deliver scalable, repeatable infrastructure platforms
What You’ll Bring…
- 6-11 years’ experience engineering and operating Linux platforms in complex production environments
- Strong hands-on expertise with Red Hat Enterprise Linux, including build standardisation, patching and security hardening
- Deep understanding of Linux internals, performance tuning and system-level troubleshooting
- Proven automation capability using Python and Ansible (Terraform and Docker beneficial)
- Solid grounding in networking fundamentals with the ability to troubleshoot independently
- Experience working with Git-driven infrastructure workflows and structured change management
- Familiarity with observability tooling such as Prometheus and Grafana
- Understanding of server hardware architecture and performance considerations (NUMA, CPU pinning, storage performance)
- Ideally, prior exposure to trading, real-time systems or other latency-critical environments
