Role Overview
We’re representing a global financial institution undertaking a significant evolution of its security engineering capability across infrastructure, cloud, and application environments. As part of this, they are seeking a senior Security Engineering Leader to define how security is architected, built, and embedded across the organisation’s technology landscape. This is a highly visible, hands-on leadership role operating at the intersection of architecture, engineering, and risk. You will take ownership of security platform strategy and execution - ensuring that security controls are engineered into systems by design, not layered on afterwards. Key Responsibilities
- Define and evolve the firm’s enterprise security architecture across cloud, infrastructure, applications, data, and emerging technologies
- Establish secure design standards, patterns, and reference architectures for engineering teams
- Lead the build-out of scalable security platforms, including identity, data protection, cryptography, and key management capabilities
- Embed security into software development and delivery workflows, driving DevSecOps adoption across engineering teams
- Engineer reusable security services and automation, enabling consistent and efficient implementation across the organisation
- Translate regulatory and risk requirements into practical, testable engineering controls
- Drive simplification and standardisation across the security technology stack
- Provide security oversight for new and emerging technologies, including AI and data platforms
- Partner closely with infrastructure, cloud, and application teams to ensure security is integrated into platform design and delivery
- Lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing security engineering team, setting direction and raising the technical bar
- Collaborate with risk, compliance, and audit functions to demonstrate control effectiveness and maturity
What You’ll Bring…
- 8-15 years’ experience in security engineering, with significant exposure to enterprise-scale, financial services environments
- Proven experience leading security engineering or architecture functions within financial services or similarly regulated industries
- Deep technical breadth across cloud security, infrastructure security, application security, and data protection
- Experience designing and delivering security platforms and engineering-led controls, rather than purely policy-driven approaches
- Strong track record of driving large-scale security transformation initiatives
- Practical understanding of DevSecOps principles and integrating security into engineering lifecycles
- Ability to translate complex risk and regulatory requirements into real-world engineering solutions
- Strong leadership capability, with experience building, mentoring, and scaling engineering teams
- Excellent stakeholder management skills, comfortable operating at both technical and executive levels
