Job Description

[Up to c. $400k Comp Package (or equivalent) | Hybrid Working]

Role Overview

We’re supporting a leading quantitative trading firm operating at the cutting edge of high-performance computing. This opportunity sits within a specialist networking group responsible for building and evolving the global connectivity layer that underpins both research platforms and live trading systems. This role centres on designing and scaling a high-capacity, globally distributed WAN that connects data centres and co-location environments. The emphasis is on performance, resilience, and automation - ensuring the network can support extremely demanding workloads with consistency and efficiency...

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and evolve the architecture of a global WAN connecting data centres, HPC clusters, and trading environments
  • Plan and scale network capacity to support significant growth in data transfer and compute demand
  • Develop advanced routing and traffic engineering strategies to maximise performance and stability
  • Build and maintain automation frameworks to manage network configuration and deployment at scale
  • Assess traffic patterns and optimise network utilisation across regions and services
  • Collaborate closely with systems, infrastructure, and research teams to align network capabilities with application needs
  • Lead diagnosis and resolution of complex network issues across distributed environments
  • Contribute to hardware strategy, vendor selection, and long-term network roadmap decisions
  • Maintain high-quality technical documentation covering architecture, standards, and operational processes
  • Provide technical leadership within the team, supporting and mentoring other engineers

What You’ll Bring…

  • 8+ years’ experience working with large-scale WAN or backbone network environments
  • Proven experience in performance-critical environments such as trading, HPC, telecoms, or large-scale distributed systems
  • Strong knowledge of network performance tuning, QoS strategies, and telemetry in high-throughput systems
  • Experience working across multi-vendor networking environments (e.g. Arista, Cisco, Juniper)
  • Deep understanding of routing and traffic engineering concepts (e.g. BGP, MPLS, segment routing, IGP protocols)
  • Solid scripting and automation capability (Python, Ansible, Terraform or similar)
  • Strong familiarity with Linux networking and system-level diagnostics
  • Experience with packet-level analysis and debugging tools
  • Working knowledge of cloud networking principles (AWS, GCP, or Azure)
  • (Preferred) Experience with monitoring/observability stacks such as Prometheus, Grafana, or ELK, and/or exposure to optical or DWDM networking technologies
