Execution Trading Systems Engineer (Production & Platform)
Job Description
[Up to c. $225k Base Salary + Discretionary Bonus | Hybrid Working]
Role Overview
We’re partnering with a leading quantitative trading firm as it continues to invest in the performance and resilience of its core execution platform. This position sits directly within the engineering group responsible for systems that operate in the live trading path - where reliability, speed, and precision are non-negotiable. This is a hybrid engineering role by design, combining real-time production ownership with hands-on system improvement. You’ll be deeply involved in keeping trading systems stable during live market conditions, while also driving enhancements that reduce risk, improve performance, and increase automation across the platform. It’s a role for engineers who want both immediacy of impact and long-term technical ownership...
Key Responsibilities
- Provide real-time support for mission-critical trading infrastructure through a structured on-call or rotation model
- Maintain stability of execution systems during trading hours, resolving issues quickly and methodically
- Investigate and troubleshoot complex incidents spanning systems, networks, and exchange connectivity
- Work closely with traders and engineers to triage issues and minimise disruption to live trading
- Proactively monitor system health and identify weaknesses before they escalate into incidents
- Develop internal tooling and automation to streamline operational workflows and reduce manual intervention
- Perform root cause analysis on recurring issues and implement long-term fixes
- Collaborate on system design improvements to strengthen reliability and scalability
- Enhance observability across the stack, including metrics, logging, and alerting
- Support and optimise exchange connectivity and market access systems
What You’ll Bring…
- 3-6 years’ experience in production engineering, SRE, systems engineering, or similar roles within performance-critical environments
- Strong hands-on experience with Linux systems, including troubleshooting, performance tuning, and server management
- Proficiency in scripting or programming (Python, Bash, or similar) for tooling and automation
- Solid understanding of networking concepts such as TCP/UDP, multicast, routing, and low-level network behaviour
- Familiarity with latency-sensitive systems or environments where uptime and speed are critical
- Demonstrated ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues under pressure
- Curiosity for how systems work end-to-end, often demonstrated through side projects, labs, or deep technical exploration
- Strong communication skills, particularly when working across engineering and trading teams
- (Preferred) Experience working with databases such as MySQL, MongoDB, or other NoSQL systems
