Head of Technology Risk - Electronic Trading & Platform Risk
Job Description
[Up to c. $400k Comp Package | Hybrid Working]
Role Overview
We’re representing a leading electronic trading and financial technology firm operating across global institutional markets. As the organisation continues to scale its platform, product and connectivity footprint, it is creating a dedicated Technology Risk function within Operational Risk. This is a Director-level build-out role focused on identifying, assessing and challenging technology-driven risk across engineering, architecture, infrastructure, production systems, third-party platforms and emerging AI use cases. It requires a true technology risk practitioner - not a PM - with the credibility to engage senior technical stakeholders and the communication skills to influence change across a fast-moving trading environment...
Key Responsibilities
- Establish and lead a newly created Technology Risk capability, defining frameworks, governance standards, operating processes and long-term team structure
- Develop scalable approaches for technology risk identification, assessment, control evaluation, escalation and reporting across the organisation
- Assess risk exposure across software engineering, cloud infrastructure, APIs, distributed systems, production environments, architecture decisions and third-party technology providers
- Partner directly with engineering, infrastructure, architecture and product leadership teams to challenge decisions and improve resilience across critical platforms
- Review significant operational or production incidents, coordinate root-cause analysis efforts and drive sustainable remediation plans
- Build meaningful KRIs, metrics and reporting processes to improve visibility into technology risk across senior leadership and governance forums
- Establish oversight for emerging technology risk areas including AI tooling, model integration, external AI services and associated operational/security concerns
- Work closely with cyber security, compliance, vendor risk and operational risk teams to ensure alignment across the broader control environment
- Help drive a more proactive, risk-aware engineering culture across the business while balancing resilience, scalability and delivery priorities
- Recruit, mentor and scale a specialist team as the function expands globally
What You’ll Bring…
- 10-18 years’ experience across technology risk, operational risk, infrastructure engineering, platform architecture, or related technical control disciplines
- Strong background within electronic trading, capital markets, fintech, banking or other highly regulated technology environments
- Demonstrated experience building, transforming or scaling a technology risk function, framework or operating model
- Strong understanding of modern technology ecosystems including cloud platforms, APIs, distributed systems, data infrastructure and software delivery pipelines
- Experience conducting technology risk assessments, control reviews, remediation tracking and operational resilience analysis
- Strong familiarity with risk and control methodologies such as NIST, ISO27001, COBIT or equivalent frameworks
- Ability to engage deeply technical teams while also communicating effectively with executive and non-technical stakeholders
- Excellent stakeholder management skills, including confidence challenging senior engineering and business leaders where required
- Proven leadership capability, including experience hiring, developing or mentoring high-performing teams
- Strong commercial judgement and the ability to balance security, resilience, operational risk and business delivery requirements in complex environments
- (Preferred) Experience supporting institutional trading platforms, exchange technology or low-latency financial systems
- (Preferred) Exposure to AI/ML governance, operational resilience programmes or third-party technology risk management
