Platform Storage Engineer
Job Description
[Up to c. $375k Comp Package (or equivalent) | Hybrid Working - Likely 4 Days in Office]
Role Overview
We’re representing a leading quantitative investment firm expanding its global platform engineering capability across London, New York and Singapore. This is a hands-on Linux and storage engineering role focused on large-scale, software-defined infrastructure used across research, compute and production environments.
You’ll work across HPC-style storage, object storage, automation, observability, capacity planning and cloud integration - supporting an estate moving further away from legacy monolithic storage and towards modern, programmable platforms. The role suits someone with strong Linux fundamentals, real storage depth and a genuine appetite for automating infrastructure rather than keeping operations manual...
Key Responsibilities
- Engineer and support large-scale Linux-based storage platforms across global infrastructure
- Work with distributed and HPC-oriented storage technologies such as GPFS, WEKA, VAST, Lustre, Ceph or NFS
- Build Python-based tooling for provisioning, monitoring, APIs, health checks and operational workflows
- Support object storage initiatives across platforms such as Cloudian, Scality, MinIO, Ceph or S3-compatible systems
- Improve storage observability, alerting, performance visibility and incident response
- Own capacity planning, forecasting, lifecycle management and new platform deployments
- Partner with compute, network, software and application teams to improve platform reliability and performance
- Evaluate new storage technologies across software-defined, object, cloud and on-prem environments
- Join regional escalation and on-call coverage, including weekday local-hours rotation and occasional weekend support
What You’ll Bring…
- 6-10 years’ experience across Linux infrastructure, storage engineering, HPC systems or platform engineering
- Strong Linux administration or engineering skills across production, research or large-scale infrastructure
- Hands-on experience with distributed, parallel or HPC-style storage such as GPFS, WEKA, VAST, Lustre, Ceph or NFS
- Solid Python scripting ability for automation, systems administration, APIs, monitoring or tooling
- Familiarity with AWS or GCP storage services such as S3, EBS, EFS, Cloud Storage or Filestore
- Experience with automation or configuration management tools such as Ansible, Chef or similar
- Experience with backup, replication, disaster recovery, tiering or data lifecycle policies
- Strong understanding of storage performance, troubleshooting, benchmarking and capacity planning
- Exposure to observability tooling such as Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, Datadog or similar
- Familiarity with Git, CI/CD, testing and modern infrastructure engineering practices
- (Preferred) Experience in HPC, research computing, quantitative finance, AI/ML infrastructure or another high-performance environment
- (Preferred) Exposure to object storage platforms such as Cloudian, Scality, MinIO, Ceph or S3-compatible storage
- (Preferred) Knowledge of NVMe/SSD technologies, JBODs, HBAs, disk arrays or storage networking
