Role Overview
We’re representing a leading quantitative investment firm hiring into the systematic trading infrastructure team behind a sophisticated, high-throughput market data capture plant. This is a hands-on engineering role focused on ensuring effectively zero tick loss across low-latency Linux and network infrastructure. The role suits either a strong Linux engineer with solid networking depth, or a strong network engineer with credible Linux experience. You’ll own the packet-capture and observability problem across a demanding HFT-style environment, combining Linux tuning, Layer 1 networking, automation and SRE-style reliability practices...
Key Responsibilities
- Own market data packet capture across a low-latency, high-throughput capture plant, with a focus on minimising tick loss
- Build observability around packet capture, including instrumentation, monitoring, alerting, SLOs and reliability metrics
- Develop predictive monitoring across optics and network components, including current draw, temperature, error rates and bit-error rates
- Work across Layer 1 networking, packet brokers, optical infrastructure and low-latency market data flows
- Tune Linux systems for latency-sensitive market data workloads across co-located trading infrastructure
- Automate deployment, configuration and operational workflows using tools such as Ansible
- Apply SRE-style practices including error budgets, reliability measurement and automation to reduce manual change
- Partner closely with senior network engineers, HFT technology teams and demanding internal clients who cannot afford message loss
- Support production systems directly, including escalation, troubleshooting and operational ownership when required
What You’ll Bring…
- 8+ years’ experience across Linux systems engineering, network engineering or low-latency infrastructure
- Strong experience in HFT, market data, broker-dealer, options/derivatives or buy-side trading infrastructure environments
- Strong Linux skills with good networking depth, or strong networking skills with credible Linux experience
- Hands-on experience with packet capture, packet brokers, optical networking or Layer 1 infrastructure
- Experience supporting high-throughput, low-latency market data systems where reliability and message loss matter
- Linux administration experience in latency-sensitive environments, with RHEL experience valued
- Strong troubleshooting capability across packet loss, multicast, network reliability, hardware health and infrastructure performance
- Automation and configuration management experience, ideally with Ansible or similar tooling
- Monitoring and observability experience across tools such as Prometheus, Grafana or equivalent platforms
- Understanding of SRE concepts such as SLOs, error budgets, reliability metrics and operational automation
- Comfort working in a hands-on production environment where support, ownership and getting into the detail are expected
- (Preferred) Experience with kernel-bypass or low-latency networking technologies such as Exanic, Solarflare, OpenOnload or equivalent
- (Preferred) Prior experience in a hedge fund, HFT firm, buy-side technology team, trading venue, broker-dealer or low-latency infrastructure group at a major bank
