Job Description
[Up to c. $400k Comp Package | Office-Led Working]
Role Overview
We’re representing a leading global investment manager building a modern database platform for engineering, data and investment teams across a high-performance technology environment. This is a senior hands-on role focused on SQL Server, Snowflake and Terraform, with ownership across automation, schema-as-code, controlled deployments, observability and self-service database tooling. It suits someone who wants to help move database engineering away from manual administration and into a safer, repeatable, platform-led model...
Key Responsibilities
- Build and support SQL Server and Snowflake platforms across provisioning, performance, resilience and day-to-day reliability
- Automate database infrastructure and lifecycle management using Terraform and code-defined workflows
- Develop repeatable schema deployment patterns using tools such as Flyway, Liquibase, Atlas or similar
- Improve SQL Server availability, replication, indexing, tuning and security across production environments
- Create CI/CD and GitOps workflows that make database change auditable, consistent and easier to release
- Build monitoring and observability across database services using tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry or Loki
- Support migration from legacy database environments into a more standardised internal platform
- Develop self-service tooling, guardrails and controls that reduce manual work while improving operational safety
What You’ll Bring…
- 7+ years’ experience across database engineering, database administration, database platform engineering or closely related infrastructure roles
- Deep SQL Server experience across performance tuning, indexing, Always On Availability Groups, replication and production hardening
- Strong Snowflake experience across data modelling, Snowpipe, dynamic tables, RBAC and cost-aware platform operation
- Strong Terraform experience for repeatable infrastructure provisioning, configuration and lifecycle management
- Kubernetes exposure, particularly stateful workloads, operators or deployment patterns
- Hands-on experience with declarative database change, schema versioning, environment promotion and drift control
- Strong PowerShell and/or Python skills for automation, tooling and production problem-solving
- Experience integrating database workflows into CI/CD, DevOps or GitOps release processes
- A platform engineering mindset, with the ability to build reusable systems rather than rely on manual operational fixes
- (Preferred) PostgreSQL experience across administration, tuning or replication
- (Preferred) Redis experience across caching, pub/sub or persistence patterns
- (Preferred) Exposure to Iceberg, Trino, Airflow, dbt, ClickHouse, PowerBI or Tableau
