Role Overview
We’re representing a global proprietary trading organisation investing heavily in the infrastructure used to run performance-sensitive workloads across cloud and traditional environments. This position sits within a specialist engineering group focused on understanding, measuring and improving the behaviour of distributed trading systems as more workloads move into cloud infrastructure.
The hire combines two disciplines that are usually separated: deep network engineering and practical software development. You will help shape cloud and hybrid architectures, build the tooling used to provision and observe them, and investigate performance across networking, Linux, compute and application boundaries. The role is remote, although London or Amsterdam is preferred to provide practical alignment with European teams and deployments extending towards Asia. Role Snapshot
- 4+ years of substantial AWS experience, with particular depth across EC2, VPC, Direct Connect and the networking implications of running distributed systems in cloud environments
- Combine strong network engineering fundamentals with software development capability - this is not suitable for someone whose programming exposure is limited to basic operational scripts
- Design cloud and hybrid infrastructure for workloads where latency, predictability and end-to-end performance directly matter
- Develop Python and Bash automation alongside Terraform-based infrastructure-as-code for cloud, compute, container and network resources
- Build engineering systems that continuously capture, centralise and interrogate latency and performance measurements across distributed workloads
- Understand Linux at systems level, particularly the Linux networking stack, and be comfortable troubleshooting behaviour across hosts, networks and cloud infrastructure
- Apply strong knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, routing, switching, HTTP and established routing protocols when diagnosing or designing connectivity
- Build orchestration and backend services that automate infrastructure provisioning, network configuration and supporting server-side processes while maintaining appropriate security controls
- (Preferred) Experience with Cisco routing and switching, GCP, structured-data pipelines or development in Go, C++ or another compiled language
- (Preferred) Exposure to high-performance networking techniques such as DPDK or other kernel-bypass approaches, particularly within trading, real-time or similarly performance-sensitive systems
