Role Overview
We’re representing a global investment organisation building a new identity capability within its core Platform Engineering function. The wider platform supports software development, research and production workloads across a large, performance-sensitive technology estate.
This is fundamentally a senior software engineering position rather than a traditional IAM administration role. You will help establish a greenfield authentication and authorisation platform used by applications, infrastructure and engineering teams across critical production environments. Role Snapshot
- Bring roughly 7-10 years of hands-on software engineering experience, including ownership of significant production systems from design through operation
- Design and build a new identity platform spanning authentication, authorisation and access decisions for human, service, workload and AI-agent identities
- Develop primarily in Python or Go, with strong software design, testing and production engineering depth more important than proficiency in both languages
- Apply strong knowledge of modern authentication and authorisation patterns such as OAuth 2.0, token-based identity and fine-grained or relationship-based access control
- Engineer distributed, real-time services operating at substantial request volumes where availability, latency, resilience and horizontal scalability materially affect design decisions
- Build reusable APIs, SDKs, libraries and developer-facing abstractions that allow engineering teams to adopt identity capabilities without specialist intervention
- Work comfortably with containers and Kubernetes while owning software across deployment, observability, automation and production support
- Bring practical exposure to LLMs, AI-assisted engineering or agentic tooling, with an understanding of how emerging machine identities affect authentication and access design
- Partner closely with security, infrastructure and applied AI specialists, translating technical requirements and architectural trade-offs clearly across engineering disciplines
- Take responsibility for production reliability, including monitoring, incident response and on-call participation, while contributing to broader platform engineering standards
