IT Security Engineer - Windows & Endpoint Security
Job Description
[Up to c. £250k Comp Package | Hybrid Working]
Role Overview
We’re representing a global quantitative trading organisation hiring a Security Specialist into the team responsible for protecting its internal computing environment. The position sits between security engineering and security operations, with a particular focus on Windows platforms, endpoint protection and the practical delivery of security controls across a large-scale technology estate.
This is broader than a narrowly defined Windows security specialist position. The engineer will contribute across vulnerability management, endpoint security, incident response and operational security, while working directly with infrastructure and engineering teams to resolve issues and improve how controls are implemented. It offers significant technical exposure without requiring somebody who is already operating as a senior security architect, infrastructure security Tech Lead or highly specialised Windows security engineer. Strong practical security knowledge, good technical judgement and a solid foundation in scripting are more important than advanced software engineering or code-review experience...
Role Snapshot
- Bring roughly 4-8 years of experience across security engineering, security operations, endpoint security or technically strong Windows infrastructure roles
- Maintain strong hands-on knowledge of enterprise Windows environments, including Active Directory, Group Policy and the security controls protecting those platforms
- Deploy, operate and improve endpoint protections spanning EDR, anti-malware, application control, host-based firewalls, disk encryption and security logging
- Contribute directly to vulnerability management, helping identify exposure, prioritise remediation and work with technical teams to drive issues through to resolution
- Investigate security incidents and production problems using logs, monitoring and alerting data, combining security judgement with strong systems troubleshooting
- Use PowerShell or similar scripting to automate security processes, analyse information and remove repetitive operational work, with a solid scripting foundation rather than an advanced software engineering background
- Work closely with IT Operations, infrastructure and engineering teams, building strong relationships and translating security concerns into practical technical or operational solutions
- Understand common Windows attack techniques and how endpoint, identity and platform controls can be used to reduce the associated risk
- Bring experience from financial services, trading, fintech or another environment offering broad hands-on technical ownership; similarly broad startup or scale-up backgrounds are also relevant
- (Preferred) Exposure to macOS or mobile-platform security, security incident response and engineering environments where infrastructure and controls are managed through code
