Role Overview
We’re representing a highly technical proprietary trading organisation building a new internal engineering capability focused on how AI can materially improve the way software is designed, developed and maintained.
This is the first dedicated engineering hire into that capability. Rather than adopting AI tools at surface level, the mandate is to work out where AI can genuinely improve engineering workflows and then build the platforms, services and developer tooling required to make those improvements reliable at scale. The position is fundamentally a senior software engineering role. It will suit someone with excellent engineering fundamentals who enjoys ambiguous, greenfield problems and can move from technical exploration into production implementation. Role Snapshot
- Bring roughly 8-10+ years of strong professional software engineering experience, although exceptional candidates with 5+ years and comparable technical depth can still be considered
- Take early ownership of a new internal AI developer platform, helping establish both its technical foundations and the engineering problems it should solve
- Build production-grade services and tooling that allow AI-assisted workflows to operate safely and effectively across substantial software codebases
- Apply strong software-engineering fundamentals across algorithms, data structures, systems design, concurrency, reliability and maintainable production architecture
- Write high-quality production software in Java or Python, with enough depth to design systems rather than simply integrate third-party AI products
- Explore where agentic systems, coding agents and related AI techniques can reduce engineering friction, then validate those ideas through working implementations
- Develop mechanisms for assessing AI-generated engineering work, with appropriate testing, validation, observability and quality controls around automated changes
- Work directly with experienced software, platform and strategy engineers to understand existing development workflows and identify opportunities for meaningful automation
- Operate effectively in a performance-sensitive engineering environment where reliability, technical judgement and clean system design matter more than familiarity with any particular AI framework
- (Preferred) Experience building developer infrastructure, engineering productivity platforms, AI-assisted software systems or comparable internal tooling at a large-scale technology, trading or AI organisation
