Lead IT Engineer - Secure Engineering

United States, New York

Job Description

[Up to c. $225k Comp Package | Office-Led Working]

Role Overview

We’re representing a digital asset trading firm that runs a cloud-first estate across regulated markets. Its Secure Engineering team designs and owns the identity, endpoint, networking, backup and SaaS platforms that the wider IT function operates day to day. The business needs a senior technical lead for that team: someone who sets the engineering standard, stays hands-on and manages the people delivering it. The reporting line is still being defined, with a CTO-aligned structure under consideration but not decided.

You will own the lifecycle of the core platforms, from vendor selection through to upgrades and migrations, in a small team where what you build is what the rest of IT depends on. It suits an engineer who wants leadership scope without stepping away from the technical work...

Role Snapshot

  • Act as technical anchor and manager for a small Secure Engineering function, setting standards and directing delivery while remaining hands-on
  • Bring 5+ years in IT engineering or a similar technical role, with the judgement and seniority to lead others, ideally in SaaS-heavy, regulated environments
  • Hold working depth across identity, SaaS, office networking and endpoint platforms, enough to design and review solutions rather than simply administer them
  • Own vendor products end to end: evaluation, architecture and solution design, deployment, migrations, upgrades and day-to-day operation
  • Run vendor assessments and recommend the tooling the business needs, backed by clear solution designs
  • Deliver projects independently with limited senior oversight, keeping IT Operations and leadership informed where their input adds value
  • Share the IT on-call rota and ticket queue management, and support other departments when required
  • Build for handover: the wider IT team operates what you deliver, so documentation and operability matter
  • (Preferred) Experience in financial services or digital assets, plus familiarity with Zero Trust, VDI, perimeter, data and identity security practices
  • (Preferred) Experience with ITSM and change tooling such as JSM, ideally with workflow automation
