Senior Security Operations Engineer - Detection & Response

United States, New York
Permanent
Job ID: 2645

Job Description

[Up to c. $250K Base Salary + Discretionary Bonus | Hybrid Working]

Role Overview

We’re representing a global systematic trading firm that treats its research, code and trading infrastructure as its most valuable assets. Its security team is adding an engineer in New York to sharpen how threats are spotted and contained, whether they come from outside attackers or from misuse inside the business.

This is a hands-on engineering seat, not a ticket-queue role. You’ll investigate and contain real incidents, then turn what you learn into new detections and automation so the same pattern is caught faster next time. Increasingly, that includes building AI-assisted tooling to cut triage and response time. It suits engineers who want to own work end to end, sit close to a technical user base and protect intellectual property that genuinely matters to the business. You’ll work with teams across regions and with external vendors...

Role Snapshot

  • 6-11 years in security engineering, with a record of owning detection and response work rather than supporting it
  • Lead investigation and containment of live incidents across endpoints and networks, covering external intrusion and insider-driven data risk
  • Deep incident response experience, including scoping, root cause and forensic judgement, not just escalation
  • Design detection content from first principles, grounded in a working knowledge of attacker tooling and tradecraft
  • Build automation that strips manual effort out of triage and response, ideally in Python and written to proper engineering standards
  • Use and develop AI-assisted tooling to keep pace with emerging threats
  • Practical experience securing and investigating Linux systems, with Debian looked upon particularly favourably
  • Strong security fundamentals underpinning every detection and response decision
  • Independently deliver projects from start to finish, with minimal day-to-day direction
  • Build working relationships with global internal teams and outside vendors, and join an on-call rota covering business hours plus one weekend a month
